Appeal for blood

Hi

A 2 year old girl is suffering from Blood Cancer and is in urgent need of blood. Her parents are very poor but are trying their best to save the child. They have come from Kolkata and have neither enough money nor adequate knowledge about Mumbai to facilitate a constant supply of blood for their child. Some people in Mumbai have come forward and are trying to be of as much help to these poor parents as possible. I have been requested by one of them to spread the word around that if anyone of you is willing to go to TATA Memorial Hospital and donate blood for this 2 year old child, you can call up 9870453300 and speak to Mr. Samik Bhattacharya for further details.

Any blood group will be accepted as the hospital will exchange it with the required group.

Thanking you.

Unique Identity Number

The process to assign a unique identity number to each Indian has been started under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
(See http://uidai.gov.in/ for more details)

It is expected that a unique identification number (UID) that can be verified and authenticated in an online, cost-effective manner, and which is robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities, will help to bring about transformation in the lives of many Indians, who struggle daily to access and rightfully use resources that are available for them. Do you agree?

Now is the time to give suggestions and inputs on how this UID Project can be designed and implemented to be people-friendly, useful and easily doable for
government.

Some examples:
a) what are simple and effective ways to prevent misuse?
b) is biometric identification the most suitable method to adopt in India?
c) how can UID be used to benefit groups such as migrant workers, street children, etc.?
d) should the UID be integrated with other existing I/Cards such as the Pan Card, Voting Card, etc.? How?
e) have you heard of experiences of similar initiatives in other countries, companies, etc.?
f) what are the experiences of NGOs which have been working with groups of all types and sizes, and how such persons could use and benefit from a UID.

Karmayog will compile and forward all suggestions received to the UID Authority, as well as display all these on our website for others to read and respond.

Thanks
Vinay

Update on Sachin Singh

This report in from Sangeeta:

I went to JJ hospital for my second meeting on the Sachin Singh case.
Dr Jadhav saw Sachin and was very very helpful. He assigned another doctor to go with me to the Surgeon who had operated on Sachin. I also saw Sachin in shorts for the first time and so I now know the kid had bullet wounds on left leg. Tissue was taken from the stomach to heal the wounds.

On the left hand - four fingers have movement and one finger has lost movement - that cant be repaired anywhere.

The lump they said can be reduced 30% but as Sachin stays in a slum they will want the child to stay in the hospital for 15 days to avoid post operation infection. I think Summer holidays is a better time for the kid. They prescribed tests and xrays. The doctor assigned by Dr Jadhav took us around and helped with the paperwork and tests . The kid has two more tests to do which I will do outside in private hospital because that's faster for me and the family. I will get the reports collected from JJ.

Update from Kolkata

This just in from Baisali:

1) Ankit
Santanu called this morning. He said that Phulwinder (Ankit's father) called him and the operation was a success! Ankit is in the ICU now and the doctors from Germany will be staying on till Friday to monitor his progress. Phulwinder is expected to get an estimate from the hospital this evening regarding the next lot of expenses.

2) Ahana
Yesterday, Purnima brought Ahana to Apollo Hospital to get her stomach pipe changed. My friend, Dr. Gupta checked her and then referred her to his colleagues in the Gastro dept. I was in the hospital at the time so I was there. The tube was not available initially but they sent for it and came by the evening, by which time I had left. The procedure took only five minutes and Purnima even fed Ahana there to make sure everything was ok.

From Team India Helps a big big Thank You to Panchtatva for both Ankit and Ahana.
